Well I feel old now. I remember finding the image files to create custom log in and shutdown screens. I think I still have a working Win95 laptop..

I remember having a Win98 machine that had automatic power-off, but it was slow, so sometimes you’d see this for a brief moment.

We did that with our first family computer. My brother changed it some expletives and managed to delete the original image, and couldn’t remember how to change them back, so my siblings and I would spend the next few days making sure we were the last to shut down the computer so our parents wouldn’t see his, uh, modification, taking the preemptive move to turn the monitor off after entering the shutdown sequence. He wound up copying the correct original image from another computer from a friend or school and smuggled it home on a 3.5" floppy.
